David Davis comments on Operation Herne report
In response to the publication of Chief Constable Mick Creedon’s report into Operation Herne, Sir David Davis has said:
“Operation Herne raises massive issues of concern for the public. It should have never been the case that the police put their own reputation ahead of the proper operation of justice and proper treatment of innocent victims.
It was bad enough when members of the police force traduced the reputation of Jean Charles de Menezes, the victims of the Forest Gate debacle, and numerous others. It is wholly unacceptable for the police to gather information to this end by spying, no matter how obliquely, on the families and supporters of the victims.
This is not simply a problem that relates to an individual department or even to the senior management overseeing that department. It indicates a wholly unacceptable attitude in altogether too many police officers.”
