David Davis comments on the acquisition of Smith and Nephew factory in Gilberdyke
As reported in the Hull Daily Mail:
Managers at Smith & Nephew are set to meet MP David Davis on Friday to discuss the sale of a factory in Gilberdyke.
The medical products giant employs 91 people at its Gateway Business Park site, where it manufactures polyurethane films for wound dressings.
It also produces plastic nets and foams, which are then sold to other manufacturers.
The factory is being bought by American firm DelStar Technologies, which will take on some employees and continue making the nets and foams.
The polyurethane side will be moved to an existing Smith & Nephew facility in Hessle Road, west Hull.
Mr Davis, whose Haltemprice and Howden constituency includes the factory, said: “There’s a reasonable chance this is good news for Gilberdyke rather than the reverse.
“I want to talk to both Smith & Nephew and DelStar about the terms of the decision.
“I find it hard to believe they’ve invested in the plant and equipment without knowing what they want to do with it.”
The MP hopes DelStar will turn what was essentially a peripheral concern for Smith & Nephew into a growing business.
WAGES: Two-thirds of Yorkshire’s small and medium businesses hope to give their staff a pay rise in the next 12 months, a new study has revealed.
The figures came from the Close Brothers Business Barometer, a quarterly survey canvassing the opinion of business owners and senior management.
Close Brothers Asset Finance chief executive officer Mike Randall said: “It’s encouraging so many businesses in Yorkshire and Humberside appear to be optimistic and in a financial position to reward their employees.”
