David Davis comments on the Chancellor’s decision to scrap tax credits changes
Today the Chancellor of the Exchequer, George Osborne, announced in the Autumn Statement that the Government was reversing its changes to tax credits.
In response to the announcement, Sir David Davis said:
“This is brilliant news, and the Chancellor is to be congratulated for listening to the concerns of his backbenchers and the voting public.
This is a vindication for the two Conservative MPs who voted against the Government, and the twenty Conservative MPs who spoke out against the tax credits cuts.
It is vital to ensure that government spending is brought under control, but this must not be done on the backs of the poorest in society. The Chancellor has, quite rightly, ensured that no-one will lose out as a result of the Government’s welfare reforms.”
