MP Davis issues warning over copycat websites
East Yorks: Haltemprice and Howden MP David Davis has raised concerns over copycat websites that charge people for Government services which can be obtained for free from Government websites.
The Tory MP said: “These websites are deceiving people.
“People think they are paying for their passports and driving licences and filing their tax return when, in fact, they are being charged for services that are unnecessary.
“While these copycat websites may have disclaimers on their pages, they are not prominent enough to be noticed by all visitors to the site.
“Indeed the design of these websites is intended to lull people into a false sense of security that they are on a Government website.”
Mr Davis has asked ministers what steps the Government is taking to tackle the problem of copycat websites.
He will also be meeting with Google to discuss this issue further.
