Sir David Davis calls for tough action against firms hiring illegal workers

In response to figures showing a steep fall in the number of Yorkshire and Humber-based businesses fined for employing illegal foreign workers, Sir David Davis has said:
“These figures are very encouraging. Every time a business hires an illegal foreign worker, it denies a job to a hard-working person who plays by the rules.  That’s why I am delighted to see a dramatic decline in the number of businesses in our region which employ illegal foreign workers.

For over a decade Labour had an open door immigration policy which put huge pressure on jobs, housing and public services. Now net immigration is falling, but we must continue to protect jobs by cracking down on businesses which break immigration rules.”
