David Davis visits Cystic Fibrosis Trust at Castle Hill Hospital
Sir David Davis had an extremely useful meeting with the Cystic Fibrosis Trust and Prof Alyn Morice at Castle Hill Hospital on Friday 20th June.
Amongst a number of useful conclusions of the meeting it became apparent that one of the problems that leads to the death of 1 in 3 Cystic Fibrosis sufferers on the waiting list for a new lung is the poor method of allocating donor lungs.
Following the meeting David Davis said:
“It was made clear to me that we can save many lives if we reorganised our lung transplant allocation system to ensure that as many as possible are made available to the potential recipients.
When over half of the lungs available do not get used and when 1 in 3 people die waiting for those lungs, improving this organisation would clearly lead to saved lives and less suffering for Cystic Fibrosis sufferers.
I intend to take this up with the Secretary of State for Health as a matter of urgency.”
