David Davis welcomes guidance to the police preventing them from conferring when making notes

In response to the news that new guidance is to be issued to Police forces instructing Police officers not to confer before writing up their notes, Sir David Davis has said:

“This is both welcome but long overdue. There is no statutory guidance regarding the practice of officers conferring when making notes.

The ACPO firearms manual guidance allowed officers to confer but in 2006 the IPCC recommended the practice be cancelled after their investigation into a fatal shooting. They subsequently repeated this recommendation in their Stockwell One report and then again after the fatal shooting of Mark Saunders.

It is long past time the Police forces of England and Wales accepted this advice in the interest of justice and public trust.”
