David Davis welcomes move by manufacturers of satellite-navigation systems to correct the postcode for the entrance to Swift caravan factory
Sir David Davis welcomes the move by manufacturers of satellite-navigation systems to correct the postcode for Ken Smith Way, the entrance to the Swift caravan factory.
When the Ken Smith Way was constructed, the Post Office allocated the postal code of HU16 4BS for sat-nav users, which was unfortunately also allocated to the Finkle Street area in the centre of Cottingham. As a result a considerable number of lorries and HGVs were misdirected into the centre of Cottingham, causing congestion and inconvenience to local residents.
Mr Davis worked closely with Google, with the local Council and with Swift to persuade sat-nav manufacturers to correct their systems. Their close collaboration was vital to achieving a successful outcome.
In response to the move David Davis said:
“This successful resolution should end the problem of large vehicles entering the centre of Cottingham and becoming lost in the surrounding area. It will come as a great relief to the inhabitants and businesses of the Cottingham and Willerby area that misdirected delivery vehicles will no longer block the roads.”
