David Davis welcomes the news of a drop of secondary school pupils claiming free school meals
Sir David Davis has today welcomed news that the percentage of secondary school children in Haltemprice and Howden has dropped to a 7 year low.
Of this Sir David Davis said:
“Today’s news that the number of secondary school pupils in Haltemprice and Howden who are claiming free school meals has reached a 7 year low is excellent news.
The national average for secondary school children claiming free school is just over 16%, in Haltemprice and Howden we are half this figure.
With fewer pupils needing to claim for a school meal in our secondary schools this indicates the reduction of child poverty in Haltemprice and Howden.
Free school meals are vital in ensuring that the poorest children in society are given the best start in education.”
