David encourages sports clubs in East Riding to sign up to the ‘Join In Weekend’

Sir David Davis is encouraging sports clubs in East Riding to sign up for the Join In Weekend to mark the end of the Olympics and start of the Paralympics.

The weekend will take place over August 18 and 19 to encourage as many people as possible to pull on their sports gear and join in at their sports centres. Taking inspiration from Ben Pipes, the Olympic volleyball player from Cottingham, Mr Davis is encouraging as many people to take advantage of the Join In Weekend and learn what sporting activities are available in their area.

Mr Davis said: “It is wonderful news to hear that Ben Pipes has been selected for the very first Olympic volleyball team.

“I wish him the best of success and will be watching his progress throughout the Games.

“I hope that as many people as possible feel inspired by Ben and the other Olympic and Paralympic athletes and will join in with their local sports club activities on the weekend of August 18 and 19.”
