David Davis calls for East Riding Council to carefully consider plans to close Dunswell Primary
As reported in the Hull Daily Mail;
“MP David Davis has called on East Riding Council to think long and hard before closing Dunswell Primary.
The council is due to consider a closure recommendation for the 88-pupil school along with two other primary schools – Gembling and Langtoft – tomorrow.
In a bid to save Dunswell, governors are seeking permission from the Government to allow the school to be taken under the wing of Swanland Primary School Academy Trust.
Mr Davis, who visited Dunswell Primary on Friday, said: “While I can see the arguments no doubt put up by the council officers may look attractive from a parochial point of view – a retiring head, a number of children from outside the East Riding Council catchment – in my view the logic is clearly against them.
“In the longer run, I believe that the proposal put up by Swanland Primary School Academy Trust is an excellent idea and, at very least, the council should do everything in its power to facilitate that plan.”
