Sir David Davis visits BAE Brough following announcement of job losses
Today Sir David Davis visited the BAE Brough site to speak with workers following the announcement that up to 400 jobs at the site are at risk.
Following the visit Sir David Davis said:
“Clearly this is an uncertain time for all those working at BAE Brough, and today was an important opportunity for me to hear from those directly affected.
The Government is going to be working with BAE Systems to ensure that compulsory redundancies are kept to a minimum and I am pleased that BAE have issued assurances that losses will be managed on a voluntary basis as far as possible.
A Statement of Intent for the purchase of six Hawk aircraft has already been signed with the Qatari Government, and BAE will now be writing to me asking the Government to ensure that this is carried through to a full contract as soon as possible, which would help to ensure that any job losses are kept to a minimum.
Any job losses are deeply regrettable and my thoughts go out to all those affected by the announcement.”
